Vol. 109 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Trawlers in Wexford Bay.

asked the Minister for Defence whether his attention has been drawn to a report that, recently, 13 foreign trawlers entered Wexford Bay and caused severe depredations to the fishing beds situated there; and if such report is correct what steps, if any, have been taken to remedy this position.

My attention has not been drawn to any report of the nature mentioned in the Deputy's question. A question on somewhat similar lines was asked by Deputy John O'Leary on the 4th instant and I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me on that occasion.

Would the Minister consider the possibility of utilising some of the Army aeroplanes for the purpose of detecting foreign trawlers fishing within the three-mile limit in order to avoid a repetition of such a matter in the future?

I shall have the suggestion examined.
