Vol. 109 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Townlands—Final Arrangement.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will now state what progress has been made towards the final arrangement of the townlands of Kiltarshaun and Tawnynagry, County Mayo; and if any of the tenants there will be migrated before next spring.

In reply to questions by the Deputy on the 13th March last I gave a full explanation of the position at Kiltarsaghaun. In that reply I indicated that further migration from the townland could only be effected at the expense of other acutely congested townlands still awaiting relief and is, therefore, quite impracticable. I also indicated that in the case of this townland the Land Commission had been left with no option but to proceed with a scheme for the improvement and distribution of the vacated lands without further regard to the rearrangement of the holdings. Since my reply action has been proceeding but I am unable to say when it may be possible for the Land Commission to complete the matter.

As regards the townland of Tawnynagry the question of the rearrangement of the holdings therein is noted for investigation by the Land Commission, but it is not possible at present to state when a scheme for this townland can be put on hands. As a preliminary to such a scheme two of the tenants have already been migrated to new holdings in County Kildare.
