Vol. 109 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exports to Britain and Northern Ireland.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that manufacturers of certain lines have offers of orders for export, in particular to Northern Ireland, but that import licences into Northern Ireland are not obtainable; and if steps will be taken to bring about a removal of prohibitions against import into Northern Ireland and Britain of articles manufactured here while similar items are not precluded from entry into this country.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The matter referred to in the second part of the question is one of a number which arose during the recent trade talks in London and which are still under consideration.

Arising out of the Minister's replies to these two questions, will the Minister undertake, in the event of an allegation of dumping being made, to allow all interested parties to know the commodity in respect of which that allegation is made so that others and those who purport to produce that article here will be in a position to make representations to the Minister prior to steps being taken by him?

I will consider any representations made to me by anyone.

Is the Minister not aware that other parties cannot make representations until they know the nature of the article about which the dumping allegation is made?

I must confess that I cannot relate the Deputy's supplementary questions to the questions answered.

I am relating my supplementary questions to the pair of questions answered by the Minister. The dumping business is a very old chestnut.
