Vol. 110 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Roscommon Mansion.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that Mote Park House and estates have been taken over by the Land Commission, he will consider the desirability of acquiring this house and portion of the adjoining estate for the purpose of establishing an agricultural college and a forestry station to be run in conjunction with each other.

The provision for the agricultural education of young men in this country has been substantially increased in recent times and plans for providing further accommodation at certain of the existing institutions have reached an advanced stage. Until it can be determined from experience whether this increased accommodation will meet all requirements, it would be premature to consider the establishment of any further agricultural colleges.

I understand that negotiations for the acquisition for State forestry purposes of portion of the lands referred to are at present in progress.
