Vol. 110 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Tax Groups.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state for the latest available year the number of persons paying income-tax in the following income groups (or nearest available groups): under £250; £250 to £500; £500 to £1,000; £1,000 to £2,000; £2,000 to £3,000; £3,000 to £5,000; £5,000 to £10,000; £10,000 to £20,000; over £20,000.

I regret that the particulars sought by the Deputy are not available. Statistics relating to the various income categories of taxpayers are not normally compiled, and to obtain the information indicated in the question would call for an expenditure of time and labour which would hardly be justified. As regards, however, individuals who, by reason of having annual incomes in excess of £1,500, are liable to surtax, certain figures are included in the annual reports of the Revenue Commissioners to which I would refer the Deputy.
