Vol. 110 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Catering and Confectionery Manufacture Licences.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can state when licences for catering and the manufacture of confectionery will be granted to new applicants; further, if he will indicate the circumstances under which a catering licence was granted to Butlin Camp, in view of the fact that hard-working citizens in tourist areas cannot obtain such facilities.

On account of the limited supplies available, allowances of tea, sugar, butter and other rationed commodities had to be restricted to catering establishments and confectionery manufacturers which were in existence when rationing was introduced in 1941. It has not yet been found possible to modify this policy. Exceptional treatment has not been granted in the case referred to in the Deputy's question, and the proprietors must rely on supplies obtained in exchange for coupons surrendered to them by patrons and resident staff.

The remaining questions on to-day's Order Paper will be inserted in the Official Report with the written replies unless the Deputies responsible for them give notice of their desire to have the questions answered orally at a subsequent date. Such notice should be given to the Public Office before 6 o'clock this evening.
