Vol. 111 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Subsidised Industries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is the intention of his Department to conduct an inquiry into all existing factors in all or any subsidised industries; and, if so: (a) at what date it is proposed to institute an inquiry into flour milling costings; and (b) if his Department proposes to institute an inquiry into the profits of the master bakers.

I propose to have investigations made regarding the matters referred to, but I have not yet had an opportunity of deciding as to the form or scope of such investigations.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary ensure that in any investigations that may be held in the future cognisance will be taken of the fact that at least one Dublin bakery firm which continued to operate during the recent bread strike, a firm which met the claims of the trades union, has reduced the price of bread by ½d. per 2lb. loaf?

I can assure the Deputy that all relevant factors will be taken into consideration.
