Vol. 112 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Soil Analysis for Cement.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will arrange to have surveys effected in various parts of Ireland for the purpose of discovering clay or soil suitable for the establishment of additional cement factories so that the urgent demand for this building material can be satisfied.

I am at present considering plans for the production of increased quantities of cement to meet full home requirements. If, as I hope, these plans will materialise, surveys, as suggested by the Deputy, will not be necessary.

Is the Minister satisfied that there will be sufficient cement at the places where cement supplies are already indicated?

I am satisfied that if the plans which are at present under consideration for the production of additional quantities of cement materialise the proposed additional quantities will be sufficient to meet the entire home demand.
