Vol. 112 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Glen Pier, County Kerry.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that, as a result of the bad state of repair of the pier and slips at The Glen, County Kerry, local fishermen are unable to bring their small inshore motor fishing boats into the pier; and, if so, whether he will recommend to the appropriate authority that the necessary repairs be carried out at an early date.

I am calling for a general report on the landing accommodation at The Glen (otherwise known as Glen Cove), the number of fishing boats based on the place, and the value of their landings. If it transpires that some necessary improvements can be effected at an outlay reasonably related to the worth of the local fishery interests, I shall be prepared to recommend a contribution from State funds towards the cost.
