Vol. 112 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fertilisers Supply Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in the case of farmers whose land is proved by soil analysis to be deficient in lime or phosphates, he will introduce a scheme by which his Department will supply direct to such farmers sufficient crushed limestone and ground rock phosphates to correct that deficiency and where necessary to supply these fertilisers on a long-term credit system at a moderate rate of interest.

While my Department is taking steps to secure that supplies of ground limestone and ground rock phosphate are made available to the greatest possible extent for the use of the farming community, I do not see the need for the measures suggested by the Deputy.
