Vol. 112 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business on the Order Paper in the following order: items Nos. 3 and 4. Perhaps the leader of the Opposition would indicate if it is his intention to sit until 12 o'clock to-night or to rise at 10.30 p.m. I understand that there has been agreement to finish the Bill which is before the House.

I take it that if the Minister for Social Welfare is allowed to commence his reply at 9 o'clock that would be suitable.

That would only give him an hour as there is a question on the adjournment.

I might not need it at all, but we had better provide for it.

It would be better to fix some definite time.

9 to 10.30 p.m., if necessary, because the matter on the adjournment will be taken at 10.30 p.m. The Order passed by the House would entitle the House to sit until 12 p.m.

The House will adjourn until next Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Would it be in order for me to ask whether an extension of the time could be given for the amendments, as I understand that there are some amendments to come from this side of the House and we are anxious that as much time as possible would be granted, say, up to Tuesday?

By 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Could you indicate for the purpose of arranging further business and so that we may know where we stand in the matter of the recess, whether all stages of this Bill will be taken next week or whether the Report Stage will be taken the following week?

It is difficult for us to give a definite answer because the examination of the Bill from the point of view of amendments is only proceeding. It is our desire, however, to finish next week unless it proves to be impracticable to do so. I think we could communicate with the Government Whips before the week-end.
