Vol. 113 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Losses from Pig Disease.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that farmers have suffered substantial losses from disease affecting pigs, if he has investigated the extent of the losses in all counties and if the Department has made any progress in tracing the cause and discovering a remedy for the disease.

As regards the first and second parts of the question, I would refer the Deputy to the replies given in this matter to Deputy Childers' question on November 17th and Deputy Lahiffe's question on December 1st. As regards the third part, investigations continue to be carried out in the Veterinary Research Laboratory and some progress in tracing the cause of the disease has been reported, but I am not yet in a position to make any definite statement on remedial measures.
