Vol. 114 No. 2

Road Fund Grants.

I request leave to move the adjournment of the Dáil for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent public importance namely the reduction in the coming financial year of Road Fund grants to local authorities for road restoration purposes. I understand that county councils are now meeting to decide their expenditure on roads for the ensuring financial year. It is therefore a matter of urgency that the Dáil should have an opportunity of discussing at this time the administrative acts of the Minister for Local Government.

It is a question undoubtedly of public importance. As to its urgency I am not quite so clear. However, the matter is solved by the fact that the Government is willing to afford time next week for a discussion on it.

I understand that a motion has been tabled by two Deputies on this side dealing with the matter. If I am to understand that time will be afforded for a discussion of that motion next week, it satisfies me.

Time will be afforded for discussion of the motion next week.

I take it that the Whips will come together and make the necessary arrangements in regard to the time to be allotted.

That is usual. The Taoiseach informed me that time would be afforded next week.

That is satisfactory.

There was no necessity for the heat developed in certain quarters 20 minutes ago.
