Vol. 114 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Republican Army Funeral.

asked the Minister for Justice (a) if his permission was sought and obtained by the Irish Republican Army for the discharge of shots at a funeral in Drumcliffe (Ennis) cemetery on Sunday, January 23rd; (b) what types of weapons were used and where they were obtained; and (c) whether any special instructions were issued to the Garda Síochána not to interfere on that occasion.

My permission was not sought for the firing of shots on the occasion referred to, nor were any special instructions issued to the Garda Síochána. The Gardaí did not witness the firing, but they believe that the shots, two in number, were fired from revolvers. I cannot say where the revolvers were obtained.
