Vol. 114 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price Control.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that footwear and drapery goods are being sold at prices lower than the stamped prices allowed by the Department; and, if so, whether he will consider reducing all these prices as it is obvious that the margin of profit allowed by the Department is excessive.

I am aware that in certain instances footwear and drapery goods are sold at prices lower than the stamped maximum retail prices allowable under the Orders controlling these commodities. The stamped prices are maximum prices and include provision for margins arrived at on an average basis. It is quite possible, therefore, for certain retailers to sell at prices below those stamped on the articles.
