asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state for the year 1948 and for the last four months of the same year the weight of sugar issued (a) for retail consumption at subsidised prices; (b) for use in catering; (c) for industrial use; (d) for household use not subject to subsidy.

The following quantities of sugar were issued during 1948 and during the last four months of that year:—(a) 54,117 tons for the whole year and 18,936 tons for the last four months of the year for retail consumption at subsidised prices; (b) 1,499 tons for the whole year and 647 tons for the last four months of the year for use in catering; (c) 35,254 tons for the whole year and 11,796 tons for the last four months for industrial use, and (d) 10,898 tons for the whole year and 3,576 tons for the last four months of the year for household use not subject to subsidy.
