Vol. 115 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Matron's Quarters in Killarney Hospital.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that when the present matron was appointed in 1941 to the Mental Hospital in Killarney she was provided with living quarters which were regarded as being reserved exclusively for matrons; that on the appointment of an additional doctor to the hospital staff in 1946 the county manager forced her to vacate these quarters and she was assigned to others at the rear of the hospital; that these new quarters are badly furnished and unhygienic; that the occupancy of her original quarters was always regarded as being a condition of service of a matron; and if, in view of these facts, he will direct the deputy county manager to restore her to her old quarters at the earliest possible date.

An appeal by the officer concerned in relation to the matters referred to has been received in my Department and is at present under consideration. I hope to give a decision in the matter at an early date.
