Vol. 116 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Street Crossings.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that, in the centre of the city, when the point duty police have gone off duty in the evenings, pedestrians using the street crossings do so at the peril of their lives because of the disregard of the motorists for pedestrian traffic; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have the public fully protected by having a special watch kept on crossings.

Pedestrian crossings in the centre of the city are controlled by Gardaí up to 6.30 p.m. and in the case of the busiest crossings up to 7 p.m. After this hour traffic is comparatively light, but Gardaí on beat duty continue to give special attention to these crossings. In view of the Deputy's question, I have directed the attention of the Commissioner of the Gardaí to the matter.
