Vol. 116 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stoppage of Train Services.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reasons why Córas Iompair Éireann gave only two days' notice of their intention to stop all normal train services on the Westland Row-Bray line last Sunday, in view of the fact that this short notice caused serious inconvenience to travellers and loss to traders on the route.

I am informed by Córas Iompair Éireann that the decision to withdraw the Westland Row-Bray normal train services last Sunday was taken only after the demands for special excursion trains for the Pioneer celebrations had reached such proportions that they could not otherwise be met.

The usual service of trams to Dalkey was operated and the bus services to Bray and Killiney were augmented. A number of double-deck buses were put in service at night to bring people back to the city from Dalkey and Dun Laoghaire.
