Vol. 116 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there is a grave housing shortage in Cloughran; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have a sufficient number of houses provided there as soon as possible.

I am aware of the housing needs of Cloughran. I am informed that a compulsory purchase order which is now being prepared by the Dublin County Council will include sufficient sites to enable the needs of this area to be met in full.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the residents of Portmarnock are very disappointed that the area housing scheme under the county council is slow in starting; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have the work expedited.

The Dublin County Council have been negotiating for the acquisition of a site at Portmarnock which will accommodate 72 houses. The council have, however, encountered certain legal difficulties regarding title to the site and they are endeavouring to dispose of these difficulties. I am satisfied that the council are taking all possible steps to expedite the legal procedure which is an essential preliminary to acquisition.

It is nearly 12 months since I got this land for the county commissioner by agreement. The people in that area are in a very bad way for houses. The site was given by a farmer in that area, but there is one small portion of the site being held by another gentleman, who owns a small area of land. I recommend that the matter be expedited by the Minister, because houses are very badly needed there.

A similar question was put by Deputy Burke on the 2nd March, 1949. It is understood that all persons having an interest in this site have now been located, and it is hoped to reach agreement in the next few weeks in respect to these sites.
