Vol. 116 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North County Dublin Water Supply.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he can now state when the North County Dublin Regional Water Scheme will commence.

It is not yet possible to say when this work will commence. I am awaiting the submission of detailed plans and other documents which have yet to be furnished by the consulting engineer to the local authority. These documents are expected to be ready in the near future.

Is the Minister aware that this is a very urgent matter in the North County Dublin and that the people there are in a very bad way for water? Is he further aware that the previous Minister under the Fianna Fáil Government, Deputy MacEntee, had advanced this project a good way when he left office? I am very disappointed that there has been so much delay in bringing this matter to a final conclusion. The people in that area are drawing water three and four miles both for human and animal consumption. They are suffering very severely from lack of a proper water supply.

The detailed plans referred to in the reply will be furnished to the county council within the next week.
