Vol. 117 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Water and Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government (i) to state what water and sewerage schemes are to be carried out in the South Kerry area during the course of the present financial year; (ii) what other similar schemes, in order of priority, are yet awaiting development, and (iii) when it is proposed to have them all completed.

The information requested is as follows:—

(i) Work on a contract for a water supply improvement scheme at Killarney is in progress. Preparation of documents for a water supply scheme at Caherciveen is well advanced and the scheme will probably commence within the year. A scheme of improvements to the water supply at Waterville has been in progress for some time and will probably be completed during the year.

(ii) The following is a list of water and sewerage schemes in contemplation for the South Kerry area: Valentia Water Supply, Waterville Sewerage, Dungeagan and Ballinskellings Water Supply, Rathmore Sewerage, Sneem Sewerage, Milltown Sewerage and Water Supply, Farrenfore Water Supply. I understand that the local authority has authorised the preparation of the five last mentioned schemes and that the appointment of a consultant engineer is being considered. In the case of Waterville a consultant engineer has actually been appointed and plans are in preparation.

(iii) It is not possible to say definitely when all these schemes will be completed.
