Vol. 117 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballydehob Branch Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that there is a demand for a branch creamery in Ballydehob; and if so, whether he will arrange with the Dairy Disposals Board for the matter to be investigated.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, two unregistered dairies, at which non-creamery butter was manufactured, were hitherto operated in the neighbourhood of Ballydehob. Some months ago these dairies were acquired by the Dairy Disposal Company and have been closed down. The milk formerly delivered by producers to these dairies is now collected at a point roughly equidistant from them by a travelling creamery operating from Skibbereen Central Creamery. This arrangement is an experimental one, and it will take at least a year's experience before a definite conclusion can be reached as to how the needs of the district can best be served.
