Vol. 118 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Electric Substation

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will request the Electricity Supply Board to refrain from constructing an electric power station in the ancient churchyard of St. Kevin's, Long Lane (or Camden Row), Dublin, which is the burial ground of one of our saintly martyrs.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that a 38 KV substation has been erected by the board in St. Kevin's Churchyard. This particular site was found to be the only one in the locality to comply with the requirements of the town planning authorities and it was acquired by agreement with the Representative Body of the Church of Ireland. All the work was carried out under the supervision of the incumbent and churchwarden of St. Kevin's and any human remains disturbed were reinterred under a licence granted by the Minister for Local Government.

I am also informed that the board has decided that in future no structure will be erected by them in a cemetery or burial ground.
