Vol. 118 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Manufacture of Building Requisites.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether any survey has been carried out of the building industry with a view to ascertaining what building requisites and house fittings could be manufactured in Ireland.

No survey of the nature referred to by the Deputy has been carried out, but there is constantly under review the possibility of having manufactured in this country goods, including building requisites and house fittings, which are not obtainable from home sources. Building requisites of many kinds are already being manufactured here, and proposals for the manufacture of others have been received and are under examination.

In view of the magnitude of the building programme planned by the Government, would the Minister consider making such a survey in the near future?

The whole question is under consideration.
