Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Registered Unemployed in Waterford City and County.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the number of registered unemployed persons in Waterford city and county during the second week of November for each of the years 1946, 1947, 1948 and 1949.

Statistical returns showing the number of persons registered at local offices according to place of residence are compiled only once in each month, normally the last Saturday. Information of the nature requested by the Deputy is not, therefore, available in respect of the second week of November. The following particulars relate to the 25th November, 1949, and corresponding dates in 1946, 1947 and 1948.

The number of residents of Waterford city registered as unemployed on 23rd November, 1946, was 1,299; on 22nd November, 1947, 1,147; on 27th November, 1948, 1,287; on 25th November, 1949, 1,134.

The number of persons from elsewhere in County Waterford registered on 23rd November, 1946, was 319; 22nd November, 1947, 322; 27th November, 1948, 353; and 25th November, 1949, 303.

These figures give the following totals: 1946, 1,618; 1947, 1,469; 1948, 1,640; and 1949, 1,437.
