Vol. 119 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - University Scholarship Examinations.

asked the Minister for Education if he has yet carried out the investigation to which he referred in reply to a question by him on the 17th November, 1949 (column 1019, Vol. 118), of the situation arising from the refusal by the authorities of University College, Dublin, to make available examination papers for entrance scholarships tenable at that college in the Irish language, in so far as that refusal affects the status and progress of the Irish language in secondary schools; and, if so, whether he will now inform Dáil Éireann of the result of that investigation.

I have made myself fully aware of the position.

I understand that the matter is, on their own initiative, being examined at present by the authorities of University College, Dublin, and that a decision may be shortly available.

I would ask the Deputy, therefore, not to press me to discuss the matter until then.
