Vol. 119 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Estates.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that one portion of the estate of Mr. R.C.D. O'Farrell, record No. S. 9698, County Galway, was sold to and has been taken possession of by the Land Commission, and that the other portion, which contains the residence, was sold to a person residing outside the country who has not taken up residence and has not retained the former employees on the estate; and, if so, whether he will ask the Land Commission to acquire this portion of the estate for the relief of congestion in the area and to provide holdings for the former employees.

The Land Commission acquired 562 acres of this estate and they have no proceedings in respect of the remainder, comprising 209 acres, of which only a small portion is arable. In view of the position, as indicated in the question, I will ask the Land Commission to inquire into the matter.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that possession was taken by the Land Commission in November, 1947, of the estate of the representatives of N. O'C. Comyn, County Galway (lands of Ballinderry, comprising 253 acres; record No. S.5550), and that a scheme for division has not so far been put into operation; and, if so, whether he will state if the delay is due to the intention of the Land Commission to prepare a joint scheme for this estate and the adjacent lands of Corraneena on the Daly estate; and, if not, if he will state what is the cause of the delay.

The allotment of this estate is held up pending the purchase of adjoining lands, but it is expected that the estate will be allotted this year.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether proceedings for resumption of portion of the holding of Messrs. F. and W. Burke, record No. S.669/29, estate of Daly, record No. S.3736, County Galway, have been completed; and, if so, when a scheme for division is likely to be prepared and put into operation.

The proceedings for the resumption of part of this holding have not yet been completed.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether proceedings for resumption and acquisition of the holdings of Mrs. Helena and Mr. James Glynn, estate of Daly, record Nos. S.3736 and U.4676, County Galway, have been completed; and, if so, when a scheme for division is likely to be prepared and put into operation.

The proceedings in respect of these lands have not yet been completed. The second part of the question does not arise.
