Vol. 119 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Clare Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether a grant will be given under any scheme for the purpose of protecting the road from Carrigaholt village to the Irish College; and, if so, under which scheme or out of which funds such grant will be provided.

A scheme for protecting the road from Carrigaholt village to the Irish College was included by the Clare County Council in their programme of works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act for the current financial year, but as the work should more appropriately be undertaken in the summer season, the scheme was deferred. It is open to the council to include this work for consideration in their programme for 1950-51.

The Clare County Council have already been informed as to the general scale of Road Fund grants for 1950-51. It is a matter for the council to select the road works on which the grants and local contributions will be expended, within the scope of the funds made available and the conditions attaching to their expenditure.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will accede to the unanimous request of the Clare County Council for a free grant to restore the Broadford-Limerick road to its pre-war condition.

The allocation to the Clare County Council out of the sums available for grants out of the Road Fund in the current year has already been applied to specific works which are at present in progress. The council have already been informed of the scale of Road Fund grants for 1950-51. It is a matter for the local authority to submit proposals as to the works which are to be undertaken in the coming financial year within the scope of the funds made available from central and local sources.
