Vol. 119 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin County Council Housing Allocations.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that there is a proposal for the assumption of urban powers relating to housing allocations by the Dublin County Council, and on such assumption, for the allocation by the council of cottage tenancies to serving soldiers, postmen and others; and, if so, whether he is prepared to sanction these proposals, to be implemented if necessary by the introduction of proposals for legislation.

I am not aware of any proposal of the Dublin County Council for the assumption of urban powers relating to housing allocations. The question of the power of county councils to provide houses in rural areas for classes other than agricultural labourers is at present under consideration in connection with proposed legislation.
