Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Housing Loans.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of loans issued under the Gaeltacht Housing Acts (a) the total amount issued at each rate of interest charged; (b) the totals of the amounts, respectively, of loans repayable over periods of less than 35 years, and (c) the number and amount of loans repayable by annuities calculated to produce twice or more than twice the amount issued.

(a) Loans issued under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Acts, 1929-1949, to the 31st March, 1950, totalled £173,117 5s. 0d., as follows:—

(b) Loans under the Acts repayable in periods of less than 35 years amounted to £1,285 10s. 0d. of which £912 was repaid with interest at 5½ per cent. per annum and the balance of £373 10s. 0d. was repaid with interest at 4¾ per cent. per annum.

(c) In respect of 5,278 loans amounting to £160,888 15s. 0d. advanced under the Acts, the repayment charges (including principal and interest) will amount to more than twice the sums issued.
