Approximately 178,000 sacks of 75 per cent. extraction flour were sold during the 53 weeks ended 1st April, 1950. The price charged by the millers is 130/- per sack ex mill, and the retail price is subject to a maximum of 7/- per stone.
The cost of the flour depends on the cost of the imported wheat used, and on the relative proportions of imported and native wheat in the grist. The average cost of this flour during the period mentioned was approximately 110/- per sack.
In addition to the above-mentioned quantity of 75 per cent. extraction flour, a total of approximately 23,000 sacks of flour of varying extraction rates was sold during the same period for biscuit making and other purposes at prices equivalent to or exceeding the cost price.
