Vol. 121 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blessington Steam Tram Company Ex-Employees.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has considered representations made to him in regard to an increase in the pension of ex-employees of the Blessington Steam Tram Company; and, if so, whether he has reached a decision on the matter.

The representations to which the Deputy refers have been considered. At the time this tramway was abandoned, it was being operated under a joint arrangement between the Dublin Corporation, the Dublin County Council and the Wicklow County Council, and the costs of the pensions payable to former employees of the tramway are apportioned between these three local authorities. The pensioners are not in a position comparable to that of regular staffs of local authorities and the Government decided, after due consideration, that provision for them could not appropriately be included in the Pensions (Increase) Act, 1950.
