Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cement and Stone used in Building.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total amount of (1) cement and (2) native stone (dressed) used since 1948 in (a) houses and (b) hospitals or public buildings in (i) Dublin, (ii) the whole country.

The total quantities of cement and native stone other than road metal used in the year 1948 in the building and construction industry, as returned at the Census of Industrial Production, were 183,505 tons and 139,785 tons respectively. The figures for the year 1949 are not yet available. No information is available as to whether the native stone was dressed or undressed, or as to the quantities of cement and native stone used in the building of houses as distinct from the building of hospitals or public buildings, nor can it be stated the quantities used in Dublin as distinct from the whole country.
