Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Remount Farm (Lusk).

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire the Remount farm, Lusk, for distribution among the landless people of the locality.

The Land Commission are not in a position to acquire the lands of Remount at Lusk. These lands, being State property, cannot be sold to the Land Commission pending the passing of enabling legislation.

Is the Minister aware that these lands are let to one man who has a considerable amount of land elsewhere? Would the Minister find it possible to have this land let to small farmers in the neighbourhood?

The position with regard to this particular land is that it is State property and requires legislation. I understand that there is a State Property Bill being introduced shortly to deal with these things.

This State land is let at conacre to one individual. Can the Minister say who is responsible for the letting?

That I cannot say.

What Department would be responsible and would see that the land is let to small farmers in the district pending the legislation which the Minister mentioned?

I think it is the Department of Lands.
