Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquired and Resumed Land (North Galway).

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the area of land acquired or resumed in the constituency of North Galway in each year since and including 1948, and the locality and estate in each case.

The Land Commission records do not take cognisance of constituency boundaries and the required information is not, therefore, available. In the years 1948-49 and 1949-50 the Land Commission took over 2,261 acres and 4,724 acres respectively in the County of Galway. These areas comprise 96 estates and holdings, totalling 6,985 acres.

Would the Minister tell us where these estates are situated? I cannot find any land which was taken over.

In 1948-49, 2,261 acres were taken over and in 1949-50, 4,724 acres were taken over. If the Deputy says that he does not know about it, I suggest he should travel more in the future than, apparently, he has travelled in the past.

Apparently, I would have to travel a lot.

I do not think so.
