asked the Minister for Finance if he is now satisfied that his statement in reply to a question on the 17th May last that the total liability of the State was £152,360,000 is incorrect and misleading, and if he will now say what is the actual net capital liability of the State as at 31st March, 1950.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Capital Liability.
The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative. The suggestion that my reply to a parliamentary question asked by Deputy Lynch on 17th May, 1950, was incorrect and misleading is preposterous.
As regards the second part of the question, the net capital liability of the State at 31st March, 1950, was £69,000,000 odd. This information was specifically given in the reply to which the Deputy refers and, by a mere process of subtraction, the Deputy could have got the same figure of £69,000,000 odd from my reply to a question asked by Deputy Larkin on the 20th of this month.
