Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Lettings and Evictions.

asked the Minister for Justice when it is proposed to introduce proposals for legislation to deal with the letting of furnished apartments.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that in the City of Dublin numbers of evictions of sub-tenants and caretakers have taken place or are threatened, and if so, whether he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to extend to the persons concerned the protection available to ordinary tenants.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 34 and 35 together.

I expect to be in a position shortly to announce the setting up of a commission to inquire into certain aspects of landlord and tenant law, including the Rent Restrictions Act, 1946.

Both of the matters referred to by the Deputy would come within the scope of the inquiry of a commission such as I have in mind and, accordingly, I do not propose to take any action in regard to these matters pending examination by the commission of the issue involved and the receipt of the commission's report.
