Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether, in view of the great hardship caused to Mr. Timothy Walsh, builder, Cork, in the building and completing of 209 houses for the former North Cork Board of Health and Public Assistance, he will now instruct the county manager to issue a final certificate for payment.

I have no power to direct the manager to issue a final certificate for payment in this case. The matter is one for settlement locally between the parties to the dispute.

Is the Minister aware that the houses were passed for final inspection by a Government engineer as satisfactory? Surely it is time he would see that the contractor would get his final certificate.

This matter has been the subject of very protracted High Court proceedings. It is no function of the Minister to interfere. It is a matter to be settled between the two contending parties.
