Vol. 122 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Kerry River.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the Kerry County Council submitted proposals to his Department concerning the drainage of the Deenagh river, Kilcummin, Killarney, and that the river in question overflows its banks at Rathsinane and Mastergeehy, Kilcummin, and causes serious flooding on the public road at these points and whether, in view of the urgency of this matter, he will sanction the carrying through of the scheme under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to Scheme No. OD.22 included in the list of schemes under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, submitted for 1950/51 by the Kerry County Council. This work has been approved and the county council have been informed accordingly. It is a matter for that body to decide whether to include this scheme in the programme of works which they propose to undertake under such grant allocations as are made available.
