Vol. 122 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Lunatic Asylum, Dundrum.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for the appointment of a clinical clerk to the Central Lunatic Asylum, Dundrum, County Dublin, in view of the fact that the doctors employed during periods of absence of the staff doctors on vacations or through illness, etc., cannot, in their brief periods of residence in the asylum, get to know and understand the patients as they should; and, further, that the cost of a clinical clerk would be only very slightly higher than the cost of shortterm substitutes while the services rendered to the patients and to the institution by such an appointment would be immensely improved; and, if so, if he will make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible.

The question of the appointment of a clinical clerk at the Central Lunatic Asylum, Dundrum, County Dublin, is at present under consideration.

I am not now in a position to state whether the appointment will be made, but it is anticipated that a decision will be reached in the early future.
