Vol. 123 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bakers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether the report of the committee which inquired into the flour and bread industries contains any information which would justify the opinion that bakers in the Dublin area could pay increased wages without alteration of the present price paid by them for flour or an increase of the present subsidy, or of batch bread prices.

The report of the Flour and Bread Inquiry Committee contains certain information regarding the costs of bread production in the Dublin area, but it is not proposed to disclose this information in advance of the publication of the report.

Can the Minister say when the report is likely to be published?

I hope at an early date.

Is the Minister aware that circumstances may arise in Dublin which may necessitate the furnishing of this information very soon?

I can assure the Deputy that his anxiety to read that report is no greater than my anxiety to communicate it to him.

Will the report be published before the end of the year?

The end of what year?

It will be published as soon as the Government's consideration of it has finished and I can assure the Deputy of the strict veracity of the reply I have given to Deputy Lemass.

Will the bakers continue to make a high rate of profit and be allowed a high percentage for depreciation?

The Deputy and I will be able to bear with that a few days more seeing that we have borne it so long already.
