Vol. 123 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Six County Boundary.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state how many miles are traversed by the Six County boundary, how many public roads and rights-of-way cross it, how many of these crossings are unapproved from this side, how many persons are employed in connection with patrol and customs work, and the cost of such services to the State.

The estimated length of the State's land frontier is 270 miles. The question as to the number of public roads crossing the land frontier is proper to the Minister for Local Government. No information is available as to rights-of-way. With the exception of 16 approved roads all the roads and rights-of-way crossing the land frontier are unapproved.

The total staff employed on the land frontier in connection with patrol and customs work is 211, and the annual cost of maintaining the land frontier is estimated at £121,000.
