asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (a) the number of claimants under the children's allowances scheme in receipt of each weekly rate of allowance from 2/6 to 25/-; (b) the number of children (i) inclusive, and (ii) exclusive of the first two, and (c) the average weekly amount paid to each household during the years 1949 and 1950.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Chinn Chomhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

(a) The numbers of claimants under the Children's Allowances Acts, 1944 and 1946 in receipt of each weekly rate of allowance from 2/6d. to 25/- are shown in the following table—
