Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is in a position to state at what stage proceedings are for the acquisition and distribution of the Jackson farm at Kilfenora, County Clare, and if he appreciates the desirability of having the allotments made at an early date so that the land may be put into full production this year.

The stage reached in the proceedings is that of price fixation, the Land Commisson's highest offer having been refused by the owner. The Land Commission will make every effort possible to obtain possession and allot the lands this spring but it is not certain that they will be able to do so.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the O'Brien farm at Ballyallia, Ennis, County Clare, containing over 300 acres of arable land, and situated in the midst of a community of landless men and uneconomic landholders, has been acquired by an alien, and if he can state whether the Land Commission is considering the propriety of acquiring and distributing this farm amongst the landless men and uneconomic landholders in the area, and if he can state when a decision will be reached on the matter.

This estate has been noted for consideration with a view to acquisition, but it is not possible at present to state when a decision will be taken.
