Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Sub-Post Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the total cost of transferring the sub-post office at Baltinglass from Miss Cooke's premises to those of Mr. Farrell and of re-transferring it back again.

The total cost of transferring the sub-post office at Baltinglass from Miss Cooke's premises to those of Mr. Farrell and of re-transferring it was £213.

Up the Republic!

That, surely, is an understatement.

Can the Minister state if this sum which he has mentioned includes the cost of bringing 50 Guards down to Baltinglass for the transfer, and of maintaining an extra force there? Does it include also the cost of compensation for the Farrell family?

The sum which I have mentioned is the total cost of transferring the sub-post office at Baltinglass from Miss Cooke's premises to those of Mr. Farrell, and of re-transferring the post office again. That is the information which the Deputy asked for, and that is the information which he has got.

Does that include compensation for the Farrell family?

The Deputy did not ask that.

The Deputy did not ask that question and compensation is no element in the answer.

Everybody, with any knowledge of this case, knows that that is a gross understatement.

That, surely, is not a supplementary.

It is a corrective.

A fallacious one.

Not any more than the Minister's.
