Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Point-to-Point Fixtures.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that in East Cork, where there are approximately eight point-to-point committees, the local fixtures are in danger of collapsing owing to the insufficient amount of stake money allowed by the I.N.H.S.; and, if so, whether he will have the stake money increased or take some other steps in order that the horse-breeding industry, which is so beneficial to the farmers in the area and is encouraged by the point-to-point competitions, shall regain its former prosperity.

Representations were made to me in December last about the limitation of stake money at point-to-point meetings. I referred the matter to the stewards of the I.N.H.S. Committee, who have since informed me that they have modified the relevant regulation to provide for an increase in the stake money for such meetings.
