Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision for Mobile Air Compressor.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the necessity for providing a mobile air compressor for South Kerry under the land rehabilitation project; and, if so, whether he will make the necessary arrangements with the young farmers' club, Kilgarvan, in the matter.

I am aware that in South Kerry, as in many other parts of the country, there exists the problem of rock clearance. The officers of my Department are not yet fully satisfied as to the best type of implement for this work. The Deputy may, however, rest assured that applications for facilities to purchase machinery will be considered on the merits, bearing in mind all the circumstances; but I trust the Deputy will understand when I say that I cannot make particular applications for loan and grant to purchase machinery the subject of parliamentary discussion, in anticipation of their determination on the merits.

Did not you propose to blow away the rocks in Connemara?

The Deputy will be astonished when I invite him to the initiation in a month's time, and I venture to say that hide or hair of him will not be there.
