Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Drainage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the proposal of the Kerry County Council to his Department to separate certain minor drainage districts from the Laune and Flesk catchment areas so that these minor drainage districts which are located at Meanus, Killorglin, Rockfield, Listry, Ballymalis and Glenflesk may be carried through under the Local Authorities (Works) Act; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I am not aware that the location of these areas within the Laune catchment area constitutes an obstacle to the execution of works therein under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that, owing to the inclusion of these areas in what is described as the Laune catchment area, the council is precluded from carrying out very important works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act? I ask the Parliamentary Secretary to reconsider the matter with a view to seeing what can be done as between the Board of Works and the Department of Local Government.

That is not the case. There is nothing to prevent the county council from carrying out works under the Local Authorities (Works) Act.
