Vol. 124 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Repairs.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the bog road leading from Mr. James Keating's farm, Killolouig, to Dirreen river is in urgent need of repair and that its repair would facilitate 15 tenants who own turbary plots adjacent to this road; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Since a grant was given for the repair of the road in question some years ago, I have received no representations as to the necessity for further work. I shall, however, have the case examined by one of my inspectors and shall let the Deputy know the position in due course.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the accommodation road from Mr. John Fitzgerald's house at Reen to Mr. Daniel O'Connor's house at Boulikeal, Ballinskelligs, is in, urgent need of repair and that its repair would facilitate a large number of farmers who utilise this road for the haulage of sand and seaweed; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

The allocations for minor employment schemes for the current winter have already been made, but the proposal in question will receive consideration on its merits in connection with future programmes of works.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that an application has been made for grants for (a) the repair of the road leading to the Cullinagh (Tomies Mountain) bog; (b) the erection of a small bridge over the cascade at the end of the road; (c) the development of the bog on behalf of the former tenants of the Arthur Rose Vincent estate, and (d) a continuation of the road to Dinis; and, further, if he will state if a survey has been or will be made of this area and the present position with regard to it.

A proposal for the construction of a tourist road which appears to correspond with that described by the Deputy was submitted to my office several years ago. On investigation, it was found that its cost was such as to place it entirely outside the scope of the minor schemes administered by the Special Employment Schemes Office.
